It's not difficult to be a jet pilot but it's not easy jump to airlines pilot as 737 pilot. In several condition most initial pilot don't expect that a preparation before fly is a must. Some initial pilot think they could finish their line training that easy. Don't even think you will get pass quickly if you don't know what should you do on your jet seat. We are working in a very busy and fast job in the world.
Here's some tips before your instructor makes you busy with their question.
1. Come earlier to your briefing office and make a quick papers
2. Open discussion about today mission with your instructor is good move
3. Soon after you are in the airplane make a quick, thorough exactly as your SOP
4. Don't hold any things not appropriate with your job that might slowing down your activity, make it simple
5. Make a good departure briefing and type of flight in short time
6. Get your checklist
In some case most initial pilot adjust their time for preparation but most of them failed. a good adjustment and judgment would save your life and saving your training program. here is an example how to adjust your time so your noisy instructor wouldn't bother your activity.
Let's say you wan to descent at 100 NM from your landing airport, a good preparation is your landing and try to make an adjustment:
1. Understanding your type of approach and landing speed would takes about 2 minutes means 2 x 7= 14 NM round up to 15NM( 1 minute approximately 7 mile)
2. Let's say you need a 5 minutes approach briefing including discussion time, means 5 x 7 = 35 NM
3. At 110 NM you asked your PNF to do descent approach checklist.
In this condition a smart way to do is 110 NM + 15NM + 35NM = 160 NM. Meaning that you should start your approach briefing including your type of approach and your approach plate preparation at 160 NM before your TOD (top of descent).
Some initial pilot have a different ability and intelligence, those adjustment just a sample so initial pilot have a spare time. I suggest you to develop and increase your ability till your briefing starts at 120 NM before TOD.
